Thermoseal Group, a leading manufacturer and distributor of hot melt machinery, has installed 17 of its MK4AS machines at Magneti Marelli, a major manufacturer of components for the automotive business based in Cannock, Staffordshire, UK.
The machines are being used to apply adhesive at high speed during the production of automotive lamp assemblies which motor manufacturers then use as original equipment. The components of the lamp are installed into a jig, then the machine applies the hot melt adhesive and the components are joined together.
All the machines installed at Magneti Marelli have been specially modified for the project by Thermoseal. An additional gear pump fitted to each machine allows for greater accuracy during the adhesive release stage: the first pump primes the second, which in turn meters the flow of adhesive and returns bypass waste to the adhesive tank.
This additional process has resulted in more economy efficient production for Magneti Marelli, through less adhesive waste. Owing to this improvement, the company has agreed to further installations of the machines, which will be modified in the same way.
The Thermoseal MK4AS hot melt machine can be adapted to suit a broad range of assembly and production lines and is extremely safe to use, with audible and visible alarms and automatic "cut outs" activated when the machine exceeds or falls below temperature limits.
