Automation is a major factor behind much of the current development and approach to customer project management at McKechnie Plastic Components in Beith, UK. McKechnie Plastic Components is a major supplier of components to the information technology, telecommunications, consumer durables and photographic industries. Evidence of this automation is reflected by the number of ATM de-mould robots installed on the company's 21 injection moulding machines.
Automation is required to perform an increasing number of operations all within the moulding cycle, rather than simply removing the finished part. The latest example at the Beith operation, is an installation designed by ATM to mill the sprue scar on a (detail) moulding to a flush finish.
McKechnie Plastic Components believe that it is essential to install robots which are "technologically advanced enabling them to remain ahead of the competition in years to come".
