New range of Profibus splitter boxes

Keywords Fieldbus, Profibus

A range of active splitter boxes - which allow multiple wiring on a Profibus fieldbus for sensors and actuators to be linked together and then connected back to the control system via a single bus cable - has just been launched onto the market.

Developed by Brad Harrison - the UK's sole manufacturer of miniaturised connectors for sensor and solenoid systems - the new M12 Profibus splitter boxes are the latest addition to a range which already includes both M8 and M12 AS-i and DeviceNet multi-port interconnectors (Plate 5).

Plate 5 The new Brad Harrison Profibus active splitter box offers a choice of 16 input, 16 output, or a mixture of eight in and eight out configuration

Designed to reduce the complexity and volume of cabling used in a Profibus control system, the new "Micro-change" M12 splitter boxes are available in 16 input, 16 output, or a mixture of 8 in and 8 out configurations.

Sealed, waterproofed to IP68, and with a compact and robust body, they include eight twin ports, plus connections for bus in, bus out, and power. They also incorporate bicolour LEDs to provide indication of node operation, bus activity, auxiliary power, and I/O status.

Said to be simple to install, connect and use, with a baud rate up to 12Mbit/s, the new factory assembled and tested splitter boxes are easily configured through two rotary switches concealed behind waterproof covers which are set to the system address required for individual installations.

A full range of miniaturised straight or right angled one piece connectors are available for bus in, bus out, auxiliary power, and single or dual I/O mating cables, and also jumper cables for both inputs of sensors and outputs to solenoids or actuators.
