Jotun "Benga W" now available in 300 colours

"Benga W", a Jotun Paints product, is one of Europe's leading protection systems for coil-coated steel and aluminium cladding, and is now available in a range of over 300 BS 4800, RAL and NCS colours. In addition, Jotun can readily provide customised colours for logos and liveries.

Specially formulated for the protection of coil-coated cladding, "Benga W" is based on a pure siliconised alkyd, and according to Jotun offers much higher resistance to weathering, and abrasion, than standard alkyds. "Benga W" systems will last for at least 10 years without maintenance, and cost-effectiveness is further increased, at the beginning of their working life, by easy one-coat application.

The resistance of "Benga W" to all weathers from the hottest continental summers to sub-zero temperatures also means long-lasting good appearance for coil-coated surfaces. This reportedly has been confirmed by tests carried out in Florida. A standard alkyd paint, after one year's exposure, had its gloss level reduced from 85 to 20 per cent; over the same period, the gloss of a "Benga W"-type, pure siliconised alkyd was reduced to only 73 per cent.

Further advantages"Benga W" can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray, and claims excellent wetting properties to ensure good adhesion, even to faded or deteriorated surfaces. The Jotun coating is quick-drying; at 20°C, and with a relative humidity of 50 per cent, it will be touch-dry in 4 to 5 hours.

Acceptable substrates for "Benga W" include pre-treated galvanised steel, together with aluminium already coated with polyester, alkyd, acrylic, PVC organosol, sillcone polyester or vinyl laminate. The Jotun coating can also be applied to plastisol-coated aluminium, provided that there has been at least one year's weathering.

We are informed that "Benga W" can prevent corrosion and permanent damage to cladding, even when hairline cracks are visible in an existing coating. Left untreated. such cracking can lead to the development of rust and the lifting of the existing coating. Should an existing coating be damaged and partially stripped, rust is probably already present, with the likelihood of further deterioration and the eventual need for replacement of the cladding. In many cases, this deterioration reportedly can be prevented by removal and treatment of the rust, followed by an application of "Benga W".
