Densoclad 70 aids 50-year life expectancy for 8 km gas pipeline

Transco are looking for a life in excess of 50 years for the 8.2km × 450mm gas pipeline currently being laid from Sheffield's Meadowhall gas holder station to Wentworth near Rotherham. To meet Transco's anti-corrosion specification the contractors, Murphy Pipelines Ltd of Dinnington near Sheffield, have chosen Winn & Coales Densoclad 70 Tape and Denso PVC Tape for the all important protection of the butt welds. The pipe lengths are supplied by the manufacturers coated with yellowclad polyethylene.

Densoclad 70 is a robust heavy duty tape specifically designed for the protection of medium to large diameter pipe and welded joints. The tough PVC backing combined with a polymer bitumen adhesive ensures complete protection against hostile environments, including immersed conditions and resistance to damage by impact during backfill of the pipe trench. By followingthis up with the extra protection provided by the Denso PVC Tape, even longer life is assured.

Transco's new pipeline is to reinforce gas supplies for the future in the Rotherham-Barnsley area.
