BOC Gases and Omega form global technology alliance

BOC Gases has formed an alliance with Omega Technical Services Limited that will give its customers worldwide access to Omega's range of proprietary surface engineering technologies.

The alliance adds to the range of heat treatment technologies and gas supply options available to BOC's furnace atmosphere customers.

The process technologies offered include four families of heat treatments based on gaseous nitrocarburising. They are already operated by Omega licensees in the UK, South Africa and Australia.

Omega's technology, which has been developed and marketed commercially over the past 20 years, covers a variety of processes carried out in the ferritic, ferri-austenitic and austenitic phase fields, and claims to enable engineers to solve long-standing problems of wear resistance, seizure, corrosion resistance and shape distortion during conventional processing.

In addition, the technology reportedly offers cost savings through the elimination of post-heat treatment plating and phosphating.
