Immersion proof breathers

Immersion proof breathers

Keywords Breather, Brownell, Immersion, Pressure

Brownell has introduced a breather which prevents pressure build-up in equipment and can withstand driving rain or even total immersion in water for long periods.

Lightweight materials used in the manufacture of specialist electronic products often give designers a dilemma of either restricting the applications or increasing the strength of the enclosure. Many electronic products produce heat which can cause a build-up of pressure within their enclosure, and without adequate venting the lightweight material could fracture.

Brownell's immersion proof breathers, manufactured in plastic, allow equipment to breathe but prevent water and dust ingress in corrosive and hostile conditions. They are stated to be capable of passing high flow rates of air resulting from rapid changes in temperature and pressure.

The breathers can be screwed in place or mounted using a locking nut, supplied. Also, they can be mounted with desiccator tubes to remove moisture vapour.
