igus inform us that its iglidur H2 bearings (Plate 5) can be used with a stainless steel shaft to give a wear-resistant and corrosion-free system, with practically zero water absorption The iglidur H2 thermoplastic bearing material is reinforced by a fibre matrix. A mixture of solid lubricants in the material ensures a low coefficient of friction and good wear resistance, as well as eliminating the need for lubrication.

The high temperature resistance of the material reportedly results in it being widely specified and used throughout the automotive industry. iglidur H2 bearings are even used for "under bonnet" applications and give excellent wear resistance and retain a safe press fit even at 150°C.

iglidur H2 bearings are said to have replaced expensive needle roller bearings in throttle mechanisms as well as being used in brake calipers for truck disc brakes. Enormous vibrations and extreme temperatures are encountered in these applications. Intensive tests and trials were carried out in the Alps and other arduous conditions in Europe. Other uses are inlet manifolds are screen wipers.

Dishwashers, washing machines and other "white" goods, are said to specify and use iglidur H2 bearings for many wet area applications. They are also incorporated into bottling machines and exhaust gas valves.
