Improved welding of super duplex steels

Keywords Sandvik Steel, Stainless steel, Welding

Sandvik Steel has announced the availability of a new welding wire for joining super duplex stainless steels by the gas metal arc (MIG) welding process. It has been produced to widen the applications available in the onshore and offshore oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical industries for super duplex stainless steels such as its own SAF2507 (UNS S32750) grade.

Product development involving refinements to the steel melting process mean that the new welding consumable, a variant of Sandvik 25.10.4.L, is now available for MIG welding with excellent weldability and weld deposit properties. As a result, fabricators and other end users can benefit from welding super duplex stainless steels such as SAF 507 (UNS S32750), Zeron 100 (UNS S32760) and Uranus 52N+ (UNS S32550) by the cost-effective MIG process. In addition, the new Sandvik 25.10.4.L is a recognised consumable for welding modified 13 per cent chrome, super martensitic stainless steel.

Sandvik 25.10.4.L is particularly corrosion resistant. It has a high resistance to pitting and good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in sulphur bearing environments.

Sandvik Steel has a wide range of stainless steel and nickel base welding products for use in demanding environments. Key to the development and quality of its products is fully integrated manufacture from steel melt through to finished welding wire.
