Specialist fastener manufacturer SEAC Ltd reports that it has extended its range of rivets with moulded, self-masking heads by introducing more sizes, a bigger grip range and new colours, including primary red, blue and green.

Originally developed for joining pre-finished sheet metal in the manufacture of product casings and equipment enclosures, Polytop rivets (Plate 1) have been adopted for a wide variety of assembly tasks because they avoid the need for extra finishing.

Plate 1 Specialist fastener manufacturer SEAC Ltd has extended its range of rivets

Based on standard 4.8mm diameter aluminium rivets, these novel fasteners are set in position with ordinary manual or automated rivet setting tools. Now available in 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 21 and 25mm lengths, these fasteners offer a material thickness grip range of 3.3 to 19.8mm.

SEAC inform us that the heads of Polytop rivets are not simply coated, like enamelled rivets, but are encapsulated within a high-precision, injection-moulded polymer profile, available in over 20 standard colours. This fastener, they believe, provides better sealing against dust, gas, and liquids than an ordinary metal rivet.

In addition to sheet metal assembly, such as industrial panelling, polymer-headed rivets claim better benefits in the production of commercial vehicles, buses and coaches, electrical engineering, metal cabinets and enclosures and white goods.
