Although many compressed air refrigeration driers can look very similar, the latest products from Hi-Line Industries Ltd are claimed to combine outstanding performance with superb reliability, efficiency, compact size and ease of operation (see Plate 3). A combination of novel circuitry and the latest technological developments guarantees delivery of clean, dry compressed air even under wildly fluctuating conditions of demand and varying inlet air temperature and ambient conditions.

A total of 13 models are available in the range, covering air flow capacities from 25 to 795cfm (0.7 to 22.5m3/min) at 16-bar operation. Inlet temperatures up to 60°C with an ambient of 43°C can be accommodated as standard, with an option for an elevated ambient of 50°C also available where necessary. A constant dew point of 2°C is maintained, whatever the air demand, with the driers nevertheless operating without undue stress.

All the driers are equipped with energy-saving pre-cooler heaters, and are supplied with five-year warranties, when Hi-Line pre- and after-filtration is also specified. This can be extended to a full ten years with an annual service agreement.

The latest generation of monobloc stainless steel plate heat exchangers is used. Their compact nature combines wide galleries with short paths, which leads to highly efficient heat exchange between the compressed air and refrigerant. The associated very wide and short air paths also ensure low air velocities with limited pressure drop. The high material spec and non-corrosive nature of the stainless steel provide superior heat exchange qualities with none of the potential fouling associated with conventional aluminium-based products. In addition, reduced pipework with fewer couplings also helps to minimise pressure drop, leading to higher savings and lower overall running costs.

Neither microprocessors nor potentially troublesome circuit boards are used in the design, eliminating the need for programming. The products are designed for simple "switch and go" operation and are built to ISO 9001 quality standards and carry the CE mark.
