South East Galvanising protects North Sea drilling giants

Keywords: Galvanising, Corrosion protection

South East Galvanisers' experience and capacity proved crucial when the company was asked to hot-dip galvanise two derricks destined for use on the world's largest deep-water well-drilling jack-up rigs (Plate 1).

Great Yarmouth-based rig builders, MIL, required the galvanising services of Wedge Group's South East Galvanisers, for work on derricks which will be used for well-drilling projects in the North Sea. Galvanised for long-lasting protection against the harsh North Sea environment, the derricks will be incorporated on the Maersk Inspirer and Maersk Innovator jack-up rigs which are currently being assembled in Korea. A total of 500 tonnes of steel was galvanised before being finished with an epoxy paint coat.
