INI Steel (KSE:04020) said it is in the process of developing a steel which does not rust without paint coatings.

The company said the "paintless endurable steel" would be in great demand in the construction and civil engineering sector, especially in building bridges. The company is considering for importing the required production facilities.

The new product would be an alloyed steel product made of copper and nickel, among others, to prevent rusting.

POSCO has developed steel plates which do not rust, but no Korean steelmaker has yet to develop shaped steel products which do not rust without painting.

An INI Steel official said the product would be four to eight times stronger than ordinary steel plates against rusting and would be in great demand in building bridges.

The steel company said it is also developing a fire-resistant "H" shaped steel.
