Nominations are now open for the IEE Measurement Prize, sponsored by the National Physical Laboratory.

The IEE Measurement Prize, sponsored by the National Physical Laboratory, is awarded annually for contributions to the science, art or practice of measurement using electrical, electronic or electromagnetic techniques.

The IEE is accepting nominations for the award until Friday, 30 July 2004. The prize is open to anyone who has made a significant contribution to the measurement field and aims to recognise and promote outstanding work in measurement.

The winner is awarded a medal, a certificate, and GBP 1,000 in cash.

Measurement is an essential part of our everyday modern lives. Continuous improvement in measurement techniques and how it is applied, is vital to quality of life. Measurement impacts on many diverse activities going on around us, from product development and manufacturing to healthcare and environmental protection, it is ingrained into the infrastructure. The prize may be given for a specific outstanding single contribution, or for a body of work over a period of time. Among other factors, the judging criteria can also include the level of innovation, the economic or social benefits involved, or the pioneering nature of the work.
