Bayer MaterialScience builds up capacity in Shanghai

Article Type: Industrial news From: Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, Volume 55, Issue 2.

To meet the rise in demand for waterborne coatings in China and its surrounding region, Bayer MaterialScience's Coatings, Adhesives and Sealants (CAS) Business Unit is currently ramping up its production capabilities at the Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai. “We are building a new production facility for environment friendly waterborne polyurethane dispersions for coatings and adhesives. The facility will have an annual capacity of 20,000tons and is on track to come onstream in the second quarter of 2008,” said Meyer. Earlier this year, the CAS Business Unit expanded the capacity for aromatic polyisocyanate “Desmodur L” from 11,000 to 20,500metric tons/year in Shanghai. It is also currently doubling its capacity for “Desmodur” IL to 5,500metric tons/year, and increasing its capacity for “Desmodur N.”
