Gradient-oven

Article Type: New materials and equipment From: Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, Volume 60, Issue 3

ERICHSEN has extended the surface inspection product range, with the new Gradient-oven, Model 432:

  • essential for raw material suppliers, paint manufacturers and paint processors;

  • accurate assessment of drying and baking behavior;

  • testing of chemical resistance;

  • cost and time savings over conventional baking ovens; and

  • high accuracy and reproducibility of test results.

The Gradient-oven, Model 432, is a testing instrument for the assessment of the baking and drying behavior of paint and powder coatings, resins, plastic materials and similar. Programming heat-up speed, baking temperature, and time, simulate conditions and circumstances in real production processes to give some findings to optimize them. It allows, e.g. also predictions how a particular paint system reacts at different temperatures to a special material. The Gradient-oven helps to speed up R&D projects for saving time and money. Therefore, automotive paint manufacturers as well as auto makers need to find out how different environmental phenomena will interact with a coating system. The very good repeatability of measurements allows a remarkably accurate determination of the present limiting values. Depending on the gradient-oven type coatings can be tested with temperatures up to 320°C.

This unique, in fact aids for the simulation of baking processes, the assessment of drying and baking behavior as well as chemical resistance, already have been well established in various major industries.

In the past, the gradient-oven was manufactured and sold by the company BYK.

Due to some essential change in their delivery program’s structure, BYK has discontinued the production and sale of the product by the end of 2012 and has already transferred all marketing rights for the Gradient-oven to ERICHSEN, Hemer.
