Keith Mans new director of The Royal Aeronautical Society
The Royal Aeronautical Society has selected Keith Mans as its new director, succeeding Ron Kennett, when he retires on 31 July after ten years in this office and a total of 42 years in aerospace.
Keith, who is a fellow of the Society, was educated at Berkhamsted School and at the RAF College, Cranwell, is also a BA in Economics and Political Science. He served with the rank of flight lieutenant in the RAF and flew Vulcan and Canberra aircraft. He remains a pilot in the RAF Reserve. His management experience was gained with The John Lewis Partnership, before becoming the Member of Parliament for Wyre in 1987.
On the Parliamentary scene, Keith was chairman of the Parliamentary Environment Group and founder and the first chairman of the Parliamentary Aerospace Group. He was also a member of the Select Committees on Defence and on the Environment and chairman of the Conservative Defence Committee. He rose to the position of Parliamentary Private Secretary and left Parliament in 1997.
