Waveform and dual output pulse generator provides three VXIbus instruments in one

Keywords Pulse, Racal Instruments, Waveform

Racal Instruments has announced a new waveform generator with two separate pulse generator outputs providing users and system integrators with three VXIbus instruments in one module. The 3171, an 80Msamples/ second waveform and dual output pulse generator, is the latest addition to Racal's VXIbus module and chassis ranges. This module combines multi-instrument density and high-frequency performance in a single-slot width, C-sized VXIbus format.

Apparently offering a powerful solution for a wide variety of test stimulus requirements, the 3171's isolated waveform output is in the range 100mHz to 40MHz with 12-bit vertical resolution and has a built-in range of standard and arbitrary waveforms. This, combined with two 50MHz pulse generators, packs high-performance, multi-channel signal generation into a small package.

Reducing system integration costs, the 3171 maximises valuable VXIbus chassis space with improved system density in comparison with GPIB or single-function VXIbus module formats. The 3171 is really three independent waveform and pulse generation instruments in one module which may be used simultaneously for three separate purposes or together to create complex pulse or trigger sequences.

The 3171's arbitrary waveform generator output is available as both an analogue signal of up to 22Vpk-to-pk into 50(omega) and as a 12-bit digital TTL word with a source and sink capability of 15mA. This digital output may be used as 12 independent TTL pulse outputs or as a 12-bit digital pattern generator. In addition, the analogue output can be controlled in amplitude by an external DC signal or modulated in amplitude by an external ac signal up to 400kHz. An integral trigger delay generator adds to the 3171's flexibility for system applications.
