Successful winter demonstration for SAGEM's SPERWER UAV in Finland

Keywords SAGEM, UAV

SAGEM SA (Tel: +33 140 70 69 65) has successfully completed a series of flight demonstrations of its SPERWER unmanned air vehicle (UAV) at Kemijarvi in Finnish Lapland.

The trials have demonstrated the operational capabilities of the SPERWER system, including real time acquisition and localisation of moving targets. The deployability of the system has also proved its efficiency: within a few hours after landing, the SPERWER UAV system was ready to take off, without special servicing.

The SAGEM UAV systems have been operationally tested in severe climatic conditions, from Finnish Lapland to the desert climate of Saudi Arabia. They are in service in the French Army and in production for the Royal Netherlands and Swedish armies.

Specially designed for all-terrain operation, the SPERWER system features catapult launch and damage-free parachute recovery. The UAV's endurance exceeds five hours and a range of 150km.

The SPERWER system brings a new dimension in airborne observation, thanks to its high-definition state-of-the-art opto-electronic sensors among which is the SAGEM IRIS thermal imager housed in dual-sensor steerable pod.
