Keywords Tri-Industries, TI Group

Tri-Industries, the aerospace turbine engine components company acquired by TI Group for its Dowty division, reports that it has marked one year under new ownership with important contract wins. Worth over $20 million, the latest contracts should lead to $170 million of further new business.

A new long-term agreement has been signed with General Electric for the supply of redesigned air manifolds for GE's CFM56 engine. Tri-Industries had previously supplied manifolds on 30 per cent of the CFM56-5 and -7 engines, which are fitted on the Boeing 737, Airbus A320 and Airbus A340, among other aircraft.

Under the new long-term supply agreement, the share of Tri-Industries on the CFM56 engine will rise to 50 per cent, generating sales of around $15 million over a three-and-a-half year period.

Tri-Industries also reports that it has been selected to supply sidewall and airpump components on the Pratt & Whitney F119 engine in the initial production phase of the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor stealth fighter. Tri-Industries played a significant design role in the development phase of the engine.

The new Raptor engine order is worth $7 million initially but it strengthens Tri-Industries position for full production orders that are likely to be worth up to $150 million over 15 years, on current Raptor aircraft production forecasts. Technology developed within the F119 sidewalls programme has helped Tri-Industries to win a position on the Pratt & Whitney engine for the Boeing Joint Strike Fighter demonstrator aircraft.
