Bombardier Aerospace informs us that Transport Canada has awarded the 70-passenger CRJ700 Series regional jet the same aircraft type rating as the 50-passenger CRJ100 and 200 Series models. US Federal Aviation Administration approval is expected to follow shortly.

The approval means that CRJ100 and 200 Series pilots can also fly the CRJ700 after a three-day differences training course, all of which can be done in the classroom and in a low end device such as a systems trainer. No simulator session or time in the aircraft is required to obtain qualification. In addition, pilot proficiency checks are not mandated to alternate between variants.

The CRJ700 Series is scheduled to begin airline service with its launch customer Brit Air of France in the first quarter of this year.
