Simple 3D measurement with QM Measure and Data

Simple 3D measurement with QM Measure and DataKeywords: Mitutoyo, Measurement, 3D

QM Measure 303 is a new bench top size, low cost CMM system from Mitutoyo, designed for the shop floor (Plate 6). It is a cantilever design 3D co-ordinate gauge with manual operation and can measure critical workpiece dimensions up to a maximum of 300mm in x, y and z axes. Maximum workpiece height is 410mm and maximum weight is 30kg. A temperature compensation function can be added to QM Measure to expands its operational temperature range to between 15°C and 3°C.

The cantilever construction with its open space reportedly allows workpieces to be loaded and unloaded by the operator without obstruction. Measurements are also said to be made without obstruction whilst the QM's rigid design and well balanced machine body allows very smooth manual probing to be undertaken with minimal effort.

The QM Measure 303 has a resolution of 0.0005mm and an accuracy of E = (3.0 + 4L/1,000)µm at a room temperature of 20°C ± 1°C. The unit is only 1,360mm high and comes complete with a removable measuring table. An optional stand is available.

The QM Data data processing unit, provided as part of the package, is said to have a clear, simple measurement menu display including 28 one, two and three dimensional geometric element icons. An interactive graphic display guides the operator through measurement procedures. QM Data draws a graphic of the feature on the LCD including number of input points and the required position of the workpiece. The operator can then collect the necessary measurement data collection. Once the fast input point has been measured, QM Data displays the measurement result.

The required measurement function key is depressed and the touch trigger is moved by hand to the appropriate workplace feature. OM Data immediately calculates the geometry and displays the result on the LCD.
