National Quality Assurance Ltd, one of the world's leading certification bodies, informs us that it has gained accreditation to assess and register the management systems of companies against the new international aerospace quality standard, AS EN 9100.

The recently introduced AS EN 9100 standard is the first ever international quality standard specific to the aerospace industry. Based on the proven foundation of ISO 9001, it focuses on those safety and quality requirements fundamental to the needs of civil and military aviation and the space sector. Companies obtaining registration to AS EN 9100 can benefit from:

  • Customer confidence that the company reduces commercial risk by embracing aerospace practices.

  • Market confidence that the international standard AS EN 9100 is accepted as a baseline for quality.

  • Improved management systems leading to reduced costs, improved efficiency and increased profitability.

  • New market opportunities as the AS EN 9100 standard increasingly becomes a customer requirement.

  • Improved customer and supplier relationships building a team approach to meeting the customer's needs.

NQA achieved accreditation to AS EN 9100 by demonstrating to the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) that their certification procedures were fully compliant with the scheme's requirements, and that their assessors met with the exacting standards of knowledge and expertise required in aerospace management systems.

Jim Speirs, managing director of NQA, was delighted with the award. "NQA has achieved a double first in its accreditation to AS EN 9100. Not only is it the world's first certification body to gain accreditation to this standard issued by UKAS, but NQA's American subsidiary, NQA, USA, was joint first to obtain accreditation by the US's Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB), allowing NQA to provide certification services to this standard world-wide. NQA is proud to be able to claim that it is the foremost aerospace registration body in the world".

NQA is one of the world's largest certification bodies with many existing clients in the aerospace sector including NASA, Boeing, Raytheon, BAe Systems and the European Space Operations Centre. A complete service to ensure registration to the new standard is available, as well as a programme of associated training courses.
