The PROsine 1000i

Keywords: Equipment, Software

The new PROsine 1000i DC to AC power inverter allows you to run almost any mains powered equipment such as computers, test equipment, pumps or any AC powered appliance on board vehicles, boats, planes, specialist machinery and even remote buildings without the need for mains hook up or a generator.

To ensure absolutely clean AC power with zero interference, PROsine produces a pure- sine wave. Unlike older "Modified Sine- Wave" inventors (also known as stepped, quasi-sine or trapezoidal), PROsine is believed to be compatible with all AC appliances to ensure a crystal clear picture on video screens and computers, perfect sound quality of audio equipment and increased efficiency when running items with internal motors like pumps or power tools.

This latest edition to the PROsine range utilises advanced Hybrid IGBT Power Conversion Technology (rather than the older MOSFET systems) – this is thought to make the unit not only light weight and compact but also highly reliable.

Every installation is different. This is why the new PROsine 1000 has been designed to be as "Flexible" as possible. Heavy duty studs on the rear of the unit allow for solid, safe and reliable DC connections. These are insulated by two rubber boots supplied as part of the package.

The PROsine unit can be supplied with one of three AC connection options:

  • UK Socket for direct connection of AC appliances to the invertor;

  • AC Hardwire for connection directly to an installation's existing AC system;

  • AC Hardwire with Transfer Switch.

Merlin considers that the AC Hardwire with Transfer Switch will be popular with many users – When installing an invertor in to an existing AC system, you must provide a method of switching between invertor and mains hook up (or generator). The AC Hardwire with Transfer switch option claims to do this automatically to provide a seamless transfer of power (rather like a computer UPS system). This is said to make PROsine ideal for back up power applications.

To provide easy control and monitoring of unit, PROsine is fitted with a backlit LCD dot matrix display. Information displayed includes battery voltage, current draw and invertor output in Watts. It also provides visual and audible warning of any fault. For users who want to be able to control their PROsine remotely, the display module can be simply unscrewed and mounted up to 25' away using a simple telephone cable. A special interface panel is also available that allows the user to retain the ability to switch the unit off at source.

PROsine is designed specifically with industrial and heavy duty use in mind. Therefore overload, overheat, short-circuit and low/high battery protection are reported to be built in as standard. Also PROsine is fitted with Transient Spike and AC Backfeed protection so that reportedly even the toughest AC loads or even severe installation error cannot damage the unit.

The new PROsine 1000 is available in both 12 and 24VDC input and is suitable for appliances running at up to lkW continuous or 1.5kW intermittently. The proven 1800 watt unit is also available for the frequent use of heavy duty equipment.
