UK aerodromes take message to House of Lords
Representatives from the UK’s business and general aviation aerodromes recently carried the message to MPs and Peers about the vital role of their sector within UK air transport.
At a lunchtime meeting in the House of Lords, hosted by Lord Rotherwick and organised by the Airport Operators Association, aerodrome managers called for business and general aviation to form an integral part of the Government’s aviation White Paper.
It is estimated that as many as two thirds of current airline pilots have been trained at general aviation aerodromes and, with air travel set to continue growing, this will be an important source of new pilots. Furthermore, with their flexibility and speed of service, smaller aerodromes are finding their service increasingly attractive to business users.
Keith Jowett, chief executive of the Airport Operators Association, comments: “A vibrant general aviation sector is vital to air transport in UK – it is a source of much needed pilots, the provider of essential emergency services and the supplier of a valuable service to UK business. The Government is currently shaping an aviation policy for the next 30 years – the services provided by general business aviation must form an integral part of that policy.”
