Solid state switch modules replace thyratrons/PFNs and crowbars

Keywords: Switch modules, Diversified Technologies Inc

A patented line of solid state switch modules that are a drop-in replacement for thyratrons/PFNs and crowbars is available from Diversified Technologies, Inc.

PowerMod Solid State Switches are available in 3 KV modules which can be connected in series up to 200 KV, feature variable pulse widths from ,1 ms to DC, and can reportedly drive 5,000 Amps peak. Providing a claimed life expectancy in the billions of pulses, these modular switches are a drop-in replacement for thyratrons/PFNs and crowbars.

Featuring 300 ns typical rise time and a flat top pulse, without overshoot or ringing, PowerMod Solid State Switches can be used as hard switches or to drive pulse transformers. They are said to be immune to arcing, emissions, and the other lifetime limiting factors associated with conventional vacuum tubes. Applications include E-Beams, high power X-Rays, and radar systems.
