Thermoplastic sheet, from vita thermoplastic sheet limited (VTS) Royalite, has been used to vacuum form the seat back meal tables in the refurbished British Airways Concorde fleet re-introduced into commercial service recently.

Vacuum formed by Britax Contour in Royalite R57 flame retardant ABS thermoplastic sheet, the colour coded meal tables are just a small part of the £14 million interior refit programme for the British Airways supersonic aircraft fleet.

Royalite thermoplastic sheet material is used extensively in mass transport applications world-wide, from aircraft and buses to trains. Much of the material is used to mould seat components including complete sections, as well as other interior parts which have a high quality, flame retardant requirement. Key to the decision to select Royalite thermoplastic included the accurate colour matching facilities and the fact that the material is produced here in the UK at the company’s Scottish plant.

VTS – is the UK thermoplastic sheet operation of British Vita plc. British Vita is a major public company with world-wide interests in foams, fibres, plastic compounds and -sheet with an annual turnover approaching £l billion. Together the three VTS businesses are one of the largest producers of bespoke thermoplastic sheet in Europe.
