Quality Assurance Audit AS9100 recommendation

GKN Aerospace Services has been recommended by National Quality Assurance (NQA) for AS9100 registration for its St Louis, Missouri site. AS9100 is the internationally recognised standard for aerospace Quality Management Systems.

Mike Beck, Chief Operating Officer at GKN Aerospace Services, St Louis, states: "This recommendation by NQA gives us highly respected, and independent recognition of the consistency and quality of our business processes. The effective operation of our business at all levels is vital to achieving the results, in terms of product performance and cost that our customers expect from us."

This assessment, completed on 20 February 2003, covered all aspects of business at the St Louis site, which is involved in the development, and production of resin transfer mouldings, complex machined components and composites for military aircraft. These include the Lockheed F-22 Raptor, Boeing F-18 E/F Super Hornet, C-17 Globemaster III, F-15 Eagle, AH-64 Apache and Honeywell AS907.

The NQA assessment examined the site's manufacturing, processing, assembly, distribution and supply chain management of components and structures. The audit will result in the award of an AS9100 Revision A, Section 2 Certificate of Registration.

St Louis director of Quality and Continuous Improvement, Tom Dorff, states: "We sought AS9100 registration for St Louis, and are seeking it for other GKN AS sites, as part of our drive to advance the integration of quality and continuous improvement into our business processes every day. This and future recommendations validate our constant drive to monitor and improve our products, processes and quality at every level of our operation."

GKN Aerospace Services (St Louis) also is registered to ISO9002:1994 with a recommendation by NQA for continued registration.
