Delphin is a machine-independent reference system from System 3R UK which claims, in addition to increased productivity, provides a highly flexible production apparatus. The system satisfies in every way the requirements for quick changing and accurate positioning and fixing of the workpiece, so it is ideal for mixed production.

Delphin is an “open” reference system which is not limited by standard pallet sizes. The pallets are made by the customer, or by System 3R to the customer's instructions. In principle, Delphin can be said to consist of only two parts – a chuck and a drawbar. The drawbar can be fitted directly to the workpiece or to the fixture, giving a very low overall height.

The system is modular. The user decides the number of chucks to be mounted on each machine table, angle shelf or cube. The configuration is simply adapted to the specific needs of each user.

With Delphin, the machines are interconnected with a positioning accuracy better than 5 μm. Several consecutive machining operations can be done in different machines with only one alignment procedure, and this is done away from the machines.

The mechanical chucks, which are opened hydraulically or pneumatically, generate a locking force of 60,000 N per chuck, and have automatic cleaning of the reference surfaces. The hydraulic version also has an integral lifting and soft landing function, which ensures quick, precise changing even of very heavy workpieces.
