NLR makes tailor aircraft design possible with VIVAC

Keywords: Aircraft, Aerospace industry

The NLR is taking part in an international, multidisciplinary project to design aircraft fast and flexibly to customer requirements.

The project, called VIVACE (Value Improvement through a Virtual Aeronautical Collaborative Enterprise) takes an integrated approach to design, translating specific customer requirements into aerodynamic and other modifications.

VIVACE's motto, “design together, gain together” means that tailored design can be achieved only by collaborating from the start with technological institutes, universities, and the aerospace industry. At a stakeholders' day in early February, the Dutch aerospace industry set out what it most needed to know, giving the NLR a basis for building targeted knowledge. Stork Fokker AESP, ADSE, Dutch Space, ELDIM and Nedtech were represented.

The VIVACE project was launched in 2004 and will run until 2007, with more than 60 participants from all over Europe. The NLR is taking part in all of VIVACE's subprojects dealing with aircraft, engines, and advanced capabilities.

VIVACE is partly subsidised by the EU.
