Quality and aerospace approvals for Ultraseal's Slough facility

The Slough-based facility of Uttraseal has recently gained both BS EN ISO 9000:2000 qualify accreditation and AS9100 aerospace industry approval. Part of Surface Technology pic (a Norman Hay pic group company), Ultraseal, Slough specialises in the impregnation and pressure testing of aerospace and general engineering components along with its sister Ultraseal division, based in Coventry.

Ultraseal, Slough already holds aerospace industry approvals for its impregnation and pressure testing operations from Airbus UK, Goodrich Actuation Systems, Honeywell, Raytheon and Westland, the facility also offers chromate conversion processes, including “Alocrom” and zinc passivation.

The impregnation of components cast in aluminium alloys, iron, steel and other metals with special resin sealants, eliminates the problem of porosity and is a vital process for safety-critical parts employed in aerospace and many other engineering applications. The pressure and leak testing of impregnated parts is a further guarantee that they are free of porosity and “microporosity” which can lead to the permeation of gasses through the metal (as well as polymers and glass) and reduce performance or even cause catastrophic failure.
