Airbus and NIA to research new technologies for future aircraft

Airbus recently announced the award of a new research programme to the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) in the USA, that is intended to lead to new technologies in the field of aerodynamics in support of future commercial aircraft.

The research will be carried out under a six-year framework agreement and will be fully funded by Airbus. The research will be conducted by NIA, combined with the resources of academic faculty and NIA researchers as well as other universities, both national and international. This initiative constitutes the latest step in Airbus's plans to create a network of universities and laboratories around the world from which to draw new technology to support future projects. Outside of Europe Airbus has R&T activities with Russia, China, USA, Australia, South Korea, Japan and soon expected in Singapore, India and South Africa.
