Australian Government statement on the information economy

Australian Government statement on the information economy

The Australian government has released a preliminary statement of its policy approach to the information economy entitled Towards an Australian Strategy for the Information Economy. The document outlines the government's mission, vision and strategic priorities for ensuring that all Australians have access to, and are able to participate in, the information economy. The government is seeking to develop its preliminary statement into a comprehensive national strategy that embraces the views and objectives of all sectors.

The National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE) is coordinating a wide-ranging consultation process, involving all levels of government, industry, business, consumers and the general community. Feedback is invited on the full range of issues raised in the document, and specifically on: the high-level statements of principle and objectives, and the ten strategic priorities and proposed actions to address those priorities. Suggestions are also sought on alternative strategic priorities and implementation mechanisms.

Further information about the consultation process, and copies of the strategy document, are available on the NOIE Web site at http://www.noie.gov.au/nationalstrategy
