This well-conducted review assessed the effectiveness of renin blockers (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers) in preventing new-onset diabetes in high-risk patients, compared with placebo or alternative therapy. The authors concluded that renin blockers are effective in preventing the incidence of diabetes and should be considered as first-line therapy. The authors’ conclusions and recommendations for practice appear to reflect the results of the review and are likely to be reliable.
