Special issue on competitiveness of emerging nations in a globalized world

Article Type: Call for papers From: Competitiveness Review: An International Business Journal, Volume 18, Issue 3

Guest Editor: A.N.M. Waheeduzzaman

The spectacular growth of emerging nations during the last 25 years positions them to be the ideal target for competitiveness inquiry. Globalization forces, commonly denoted by openness, trade liberalization and political reforms, facilitate their accelerated growth. MNCs, in particular, have been instrumental in strengthening the economic growth in the emerging nations through international trade, investment and production. This special issue aims at investigating these issues. Possible topics are as follows:

  • Theoretical and empirical models explaining how competitiveness of emerging nations differs from other groups (e.g. developed or developing).

  • Role of political, social, and cultural factors affecting competitiveness.

  • Relationship with globalization, political and economic freedom, governance, inequality or environment (e.g. global warming).

  • Methodological difficulties in measuring competitiveness. Evaluate Growth Competitiveness Index (GCI) by the World Economic Forum or other measures.

  • How international trade, direct investment, and production decisions of MNCs affect competitiveness.
