Purpose – to report, very briefly, how five HR directors approach the issue of talent management and why they think people stay with their own organizations. Design/methodology/approach – allows each of the contributors, Brian Fitzgerald (director of HR development at Atkins), Chris Thomas (people and customers director, FirstAssist Group), Susana Berlevy (head of human resources, Europe, HSBC Private Bank), Mark Wilcox (director of people and organizational development, HR Europe, Sony) and Terry McDougall (assistant chief executive HR, London Borough of Hackney), to provide a short summary of the strategies they have found to be particularly effective at developing talent and promoting commitment to the organization.
