Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to review the market for MBA courses in New Zealand and the prospects for MBA graduates. Design/methodology/approach – The paper states that New Zealand has a highly competitive MBA marketplace, with ten institutions offering a range of MBA degree options targeting various market niches. Considers the possibility of oversupply in the market and discusses the criteria for selecting a programme. Points out the demands made by MBA study and offers advice for prospective students about their learning experience and the relevance and benefits of an MBA. Presents profiles of some recent and prospective MBA graduates, in which each explains their reasons for undertaking the course and offers advice for new students. Practical implications – The paper includes a guide to the range of MBA programmes available in New Zealand in 2008.
