The NCEC produce one single data source for chemical labelling information

The National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC) has developed a solution to a long-standing problem in the distribution and supply of chemical goods. Existing regulations and guidelines on labelling are split across three disparate sources. For the first time all of this information has been collated onto one single datastream, the CSE (Carriage, Supply and Exposure Limits) CD-ROM.

There are currently three regulatory lists affecting the labelling of chemical products: the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (commonly known as the "Orange Book") which are implemented in the UK through the Carriage of Dangerous Goods package of regulations, the EC Dangerous Substances Directive (67/549/EEC), which is implemented in the UK through the CHIP regulations, and the UK Health and Safety Executive who have developed the Exposure Limits published in EH4O. The criteria used to develop the regulations in all these three areas are different, making cross-referencing an arduous task.

With all the information on one single CD-ROM database, the searches will be simplified and valuable time saved. As well as being time economical, the user will also have the added security of knowing that they have not omitted any vital information.

Produced by the NCEC which has over 25 years' experience in providing advice and assistance in dealing with hazardous substances, the CSE CD-ROM automatically cross references the three data sources and gives the user all the information they need in a single screen format. The CSE CD-ROM also has symbols, risk and safety phrases and exposure limits.

The product costs »250 annually and runs under the universal Windows software on a single CD-ROM. All changes to the legislation during the course of a subscription period will be automatically sent to the user and the CD-ROM is designed to automatically update itself. Subscribers can begin their membership at any time during the year.
