Although many emergency planners are skilled in their tasks they can fall foul of the press and the way the press interpret and report disastrous events and the way they are managed. Even expertly managed responses can appear to the public as being chaotic and ill‐managed purely by the way the press report the event. The classic type of example is on the disclosure of the number fatalities and injured. Those in the field know that these are very sensitive issues and the facts must be verified before such numbers are released, yet, the press can make such hesitation appear as a fault.

This book is written as a guide and training manual for organisations within the commercial field, covering issues such as who the media are, what they want and how they function; writing press releases, organising and carrying out live broadcast and press interviews and conferences.

This is one of these well‐written and carefully considered books by an excellent author with live field experience.
