“The animals went in two‐by‐two” as the old song says and here is a book which explains why that is not quite true in the event of a disaster.

In this book Irvine discusses animal welfare policy, public policy, and animal advocacy and looks at the issues raises within civil society. It stresses that we have to plan with foresight not only for domestic pets and wild free‐running animals but also those animals which are used within zoos and factory farms. The author bases the book not only on her extensive research but also on her direct experience in rescuing companion animals during hurricane Katrina.

A marvellous combination of scholarship and experience makes this book a valuable addition to any disaster library.
