Abstract

General Studies are not normally an integral part of a degree course at British Universities although they are present in some, especially at the former CATs. Such courses (including Liberal Studies, Complementary Studies, etc.) are also to be found in various Colleges in the tertiary education sector and in some schools; and if they have anything in common, it is probably that they are sources of contention. This study of General Studies at the University of Surrey may therefore be illuminating.
