Abstract

No precise figures are available regarding the number of students enrolled with UK‐based correspondence colleges. Various estimates have been made. Possibly the most accurate is that cited by the Council for the Accreditation of Correspondence Colleges, which puts the figure in the region of 600,000. Not all these students are living in the UK, nor is it likely that all are actively pursuing their course of studies. Nevertheless, it can be confidently asserted that the number studying by this method is very substantial.
