Abstract

The Senior Teacher sounds a lowly educational animal, but is in fact second only to a Head of Department in the hierarchy of Scottish Further Education colleges. His English counterpart is usually accorded the lofty title of Principal Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. But what does the designation matter if the pay is all right? And some STs, if they are honours graduates, receive well over £4,500 pa. Promotion from Teacher to Senior Teacher could mean an overnight salary increase of 40 per cent.
