Abstract

An in‐company programme to develop senior managers in the Sun Alliance Insurance Group is described, the first to be attempted at this level. Senior managers have a crucial role in strategic development and the long‐term perspective was just one respect in which the course differed from those aimed at middle management. The senior managers also wanted practical help with managerial skills, and found great value in the support processes developed during the workshops. Goals, selection of participants, design of the sessions, and the eventual outcome are reported in some detail, together with comments from those taking part.
