Anode Spread and Coatings
Abstract
IN A PREVIOUS article, discussions and computations on the distribution of currents in electrolytic cells were presented. It was stated that further work was being carried out and this article covers one of these further pieces of work. In the application of cathodic protection to ships' hulls it has long been realised that individual anodes should be set on backings of highly insulating coatings to spread the protection. If this is not done then there is a very high level of over‐protection in the vicinity of the anode which absorbs a majority of the current available.
