Abstract

Security systems have evolved in parallel with advances in electronic technology. Until now development has largely been substitution engineering — using modern techniques to achieve the same thing, but in a smaller or less costly way — rather than addressing the fundamental problems of the industry. This is changing with the introduction of ‘intelligent systems’, such as ‘Genesis’, launched recently by Securicor Granley, and other similar systems being introduced over the next two or three years.
