The Library Association Conference

Abstract

The programme of the Conference to be held in London this year from 18th to 22nd September is one that should have a general appeal to delegates, as its range is wide, and the whole occasion has been made one of much significance. On the practical side, subjects of immediate administrative moment are discussed, while the bookish side will also be presented. Naturally, emphasis is laid on the fact that the Association is memorialising the Centenary of the coming into operation of the public library service. The fact that the Presidency has been accepted by H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh marks the occasion as one of more than purely professional interest; and it will be remembered that last year H.M. The King was graciously pleased to grant his Patronage to the Association in commemoration of the Centenary. It will be gathered, therefore, that this Conference will be one of more than ordinary interest, and the hope will be in the minds of all delegates that our Royal President will be free to take part in some of our meetings. The sessions will be held at different points, but the more important gatherings will be at the Central Hall, Westminster. The sectional meetings will be held variously at the Beveridge Hall (London University), University College, the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum, the South Hall, Victoria Halls, Bloomsbury Square, and the North Hall in the same building.
