Abstract

The new accounting standards promulgated by the major accountancy bodies under the aegis of the Accounting Standards Steering Committee have resulted in a remarkable advance in the standard of presentation of published annual accounts of United Kingdom companies. The work of the ASSC has commanded a wide measure of acceptance among public companies and has strengthened the case for a voluntary system of control at a time when pressures have been growing for a statutory regulatory body.
