Abstract

WORSTED CLOTH has been produced for generations in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and over a period of years the production processes have become more mechanised and more automatic. There is, however, one particular process involved in the manufacture of worsted suitings which does not appear to lend itself to mechanisation of any kind and that process is called ‘mending’. This process is carried out entirely by female labour.
