Abstract

In the teaching of scientific and technical subjects a great deal of time can be saved and the scope of the lecturers extended if a collection of slides is available. Complicated diagrams and methods of calculation can be explained, and apparatus and other equipment which could not be brought into a classroom, can be illustrated. Some graphical constructions, such as force diagrams or the Williot‐Mohr diagram, can only be described in a satisfactory manner if drawn carefully to scale; on a blackboard this takes time, but such cases can be dealt with conveniently using a series of slides showing how the diagram is built up. Jf these diagrams are available in textbooks, the references can be given so that the students can look them up later.
